Beebe taught a two-part session entitled “Multiemployer Benefit Plans” with Marcus J. Aron, CPA, Senior Auditor at the U.S. Department of Labor, at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Employee Benefit Plans Conference, which took place May 12 – 15, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This session provided guidance on the unique issues involved in the audits of these plans and audit complexities. Designed to provide key regulatory and legislative updates, the Conference educates Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), plan sponsors, third party administrators, and benefit plan consultants on benefit plan accounting best practices with insights from industry experts.

Buckberg and Beebe co-presented “Fraud in Employee Benefits” at the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants 2014 Employee Benefit Plan Conference on May 19, 2014 in Washington, DC. The conference is designed to equip CPAs in the public and private sectors with guidance to better audit and operate Employee Benefit Plans; this session specifically reviewed where employee benefit fraud is most likely and the proper internal control to help prevent fraud.
